TESTED FOR GLOBAL TRANSPORT

The new BILSTEIN packaging achieves a 300% increase in drop test resistance and has proven its durability in worldwide transport. Whether from the USA to Germany, from Romania to China, or within Europe, our new packaging delivers ultimate durability and optimized performance for global logistics processes.

FIVE LAYERS FOR MAXIMUM STABILITY

Optimized cardboard structures and reinforced wall thicknesses ensure maximum protection from the factory to the workshop. The new packaging consists of two corrugated layers and three flat paper layers – a total of five layers providing superior stability. An additional kraft or topliner finish gives the surface extra strength and an appealing appearance.

DIGITAL SUPPORT
VERIFIED AUTHENTICITY

Simply scan and benefit instantly: The new QR codes give workshops and distributors direct access to the digital BILSTEIN Workshop World including installation videos, technical data sheets, and detailed product information. At the same time, a new tamper-proof security label with integrated authenticity verification provides reliable protection against counterfeit products.

MODERNISED DESIGN WITH STRONG BRAND RECOGNITION

With its modernised design, BILSTEIN is presenting the new logo and brand claim on its packaging for the first time. Clean colour areas and a consistent design language emphasise the brand’s premium character. Two standardised packaging lines ensure clear recognition: dark for Performance products and blue-yellow for OE Replacement products.

SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING
WITHOUT COMPROMISE

The new packaging is made from more recyclable materials that are produced with fewer resources and can be reused more easily. In addition, we use biodegradable printing inks that are free from harmful substances and allow for environmentally friendly disposal. This way, we make an active contribution to a more sustainable supply chain without compromising on quality or protection.

The new packaging stands for more than just protection. It is an expression of our premium and engineering standards. With the new design and optimized materials, we are consistently continuing our WAY AHEAD philosophy to enable better processes, stronger customer relationships and maximum satisfaction in everyday use.

Frequently asked questions about the packaging change

Why is BILSTEIN introducing new packaging?

The new packaging is a key element of our ongoing development under the guiding principle WAY AHEAD. As a brand, we constantly strive to improve and respond to the needs of our customers.

In the past, transport occasionally caused damage to our packaging. To ensure smoother processes and maximum reliability for our partners, we have made our packaging more robust.

Our goal is to ensure that the high quality of our products is also reflected in packaging and logistics – with a more stable, sustainable, and premium solution that meets BILSTEIN’s engineering and design standards.

What advantages does the new packaging offer?
  • Five layers of high-quality corrugated cardboard instead of the previous three
  • Thicker lining with optimized corrugation pattern
  • Proven to be three times more resilient in independent drop tests (ISTA standard)
  • Significantly reduced transport damage in real-world field tests
  • Optimized design prevents puncturing of packaging tabs

Overall, the new BILSTEIN packaging provides higher protection, longer durability, and a visibly improved appearance that reinforces brand quality.

How was the new packaging tested?

Independent testing institutes compared the old and new packaging according to one of the highest ISTA standards (International Safe Transit Association).

Both versions were dropped from a defined height onto various edges and sides. The old packaging broke after three drops, while the new one withstood nine – making it three times more robust.

In addition, BILSTEIN carried out long-term field tests:

  • Transported approximately 1,700 km between Unna (DE) and Sibiu (RO) with multiple transshipments
  • Old packaging showed significant wear
  • New packaging remained in excellent condition throughout
Will this increase costs for customers?

On average, packaging costs are about 1 % higher than before. However, this minimal increase is offset by a significant reduction in transport damage, complaints, and replacement shipments.
It’s not an additional expense – it’s an investment in quality assurance and customer satisfaction.

What changes for workshops and distributors?

In day-to-day handling, almost nothing changes. Storage, transport, and installation remain straightforward.
Due to enhanced stability and reinforced materials, some packages are slightly larger – providing even better protection for every original BILSTEIN product.
Retailers benefit from fewer complaints and less re-packaging, while workshops receive packaging that reflects BILSTEIN’s premium standards in both appearance and function.

Is there anything to keep in mind when handling the new packaging?

The new boxes are made from thicker material and may require slightly more storage space. However, this is far outweighed by their increased strength, improved protection, and reduced damage rate during transport.

How will retail partners be prepared for the transition?

All partners will receive detailed information about size adjustments, storage, and handling benefits ahead of time.
The new packaging simplifies warehousing, minimizes downtime, and reduces returns.
Additional information is available via the QR codes printed on the new boxes, which lead directly to the BILSTEIN Workshop World – providing quick access to installation videos, technical data, and product details.

How will consistent international availability be ensured?

All packaging solutions were developed in cooperation with European suppliers according to strict standards for quality, recycling, and stability.
Through centralized procurement and optimized production processes, BILSTEIN ensures consistent availability and uniform quality worldwide.

How does the new packaging improve sustainability?

The new packaging is made entirely from 100 % recycled paper and is itself fully recyclable – even when printed.
BILSTEIN uses water-based, eco-friendly inks and is working toward its long-term Vision Zero:
No damaged packaging. No replacement deliveries. No unnecessary transport.

How will smaller retailers and workshops be informed?

The rollout will be supported by extensive communication measures across online and offline channels, including advertising, PR, and direct partner information.
Distributors will also receive dedicated sales materials to help them inform their customers in a timely and consistent manner.

How will the transition from old to new packaging work?

All BILSTEIN plants will gradually switch to the new packaging between 2026 and early 2027. During the transition period, both old and new packaging will remain in use.
Products already packed in the previous design do not need to be repacked – ensuring a smooth, efficient changeover.

Can products with the old packaging still be sold?

Yes. Existing BILSTEIN products in the old packaging may continue to be sold without restriction.
Repacking is unnecessary. Once new packaging is received, it will simply replace the old version in circulation – ensuring a seamless and resource-efficient transition.
